By thinking on it continually

When he was asked how he had come to make astonishing discoveries contained in the Principia Mathematica, 1687, Newton replied, ‘by thinking on it continually’.

Newton went on:

I keep the subject constantly before me and wait till the first dawnings open slowly, by little and little, into a full and clear light.
