The Rood of Boxley

December 30, 2011

Boxley is best known through its celebrated Rood of Grace, a cross with an image supposed to be miraculously gifted with movement and speech. More than a century before the Dissolution the abbey is spoken (fn. 25) of as ‘called the abbey of the Holy Cross of Grace.’ Archbishop Warham, writing (fn. 26) to Wolsey in connexion with claims against the abbey, says that it was much sought after by visitors to the Rood from all parts of the realm, and so he would be sorry to put it under an interdict. He calls it ‘so holy a place where so many miracles be showed.’ But the image proved to be a gross imposture. Geoffrey Chamber, employed in defacing the monastery and plucking it down, wrote (fn. 27) to Cromwell on 7 February, 1538, that he found in it certain engines and old wire, with old rotten sticks in the back, which caused the eyes to move and stir in the head thereof, ‘like unto a lively thing,’ and also, the nether lip likewise to move as though it should speak, ‘ which was not a little strange to him and others present.’ He examined the abbot and old monks, who declared themselves ignorant of it; and considering that the people of Kent had in time past a great devotion to the image and used continual pilgrimages there, he conveyed it to Maidstone that day, a market day, and showed it to the people, ‘ who had the matter in wondrous detestation and hatred so that if the monastery had to be defaced again they would pluck it down or burn it.’ The image was afterwards taken to London and exhibited during a sermon by the bishop of Rochester at St. Paul’s Cross, arid then cut to pieces and burnt. (fn. 28) The news of the exposure appears to have been widely spread, and probably nothing was more damaging to the case for the monasteries.

Ricahrd Mouw hoodwinked by Mormonism

October 18, 2011

While I am not prepared to reclassify Mormonism as possessing undeniably Christian theology, I do accept many of my Mormon friends as genuine followers of the Jesus whom I worship as the divine Savior.

Richard J. Mouw, President of Fuller Theological Seminary, Special to CNN October 9th, 2011

Would that be the ‘Jesus’ who is Satan’s brother, Dr Mouw? It seems another ‘evangelical’ has been hoodwinked by the recent Mormon tactic of laying claim to being just another Christian denomination.

The New Age – The Old Lie

September 8, 2009

When the self perceives itself to be at one with the cosmos, it is at one with it.  Self-realization, then, is the realization that the self and the cosmos are not only of a piece but are the same piece…

Central to cosmic consciousness is the unitary experience: first, the experience of perceiving the wholeness of the cosmos; second, the experience of becoming one with the whole cosmos; and finally, the experience of going beyond even that oneness with the cosmos to recognize that the self is the generator of all reality.

For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil. Gen.3.5

Lying is the worst of all evils.

September 5, 2009

Lying is the worst of all evils. Everything else that is diabolical comes from it. And we have been lied to; public opinion is constantly deceived. Not a page of a newspaper is free of lies, whether it deals with political, economic, historical, social or cultural affairs. Truth is under pressure everywhere; the facts are distorted, twisted and made into their opposite.

Self-Contradictions of Mormonism

August 26, 2009

Now hear it, 0 inhabitants of the earth, Jew and Gentile, saint and sinner! When our father Adam came into the Garden of Eden, he came into it with a celestial body, and brought Eve, one of his wives, with him. He helped to make and organize this world. He is Michael, the Archangel, the Ancient of Days, about whom holy men have written and spoken-He is our father and our God, and the only God with whom we have to do.

Brigham Young, 2nd Church President (Journal of Discourses, vol. 1, p. 50).

But Bruce McConkie, Mormon Apostle said (1st June, 1980)

There are those who believe or say they believe that Adam is our father and our god, that he is the father of our spirits and our bodies, and that he is the one we worship.

The devil keeps this heresy alive as a means of obtaining converts to cultism. It is contrary to the whole plan of salvation set forth in the scriptures, and anyone who has read the Book of Moses, and anyone who has received the temple endowment, has no excuse whatever for being led astray by it. Those who are so ensnared reject the living prophet and close their ears to the apostles of their day.

In other words, Mormon doctrine is changing and contradicts itself. Rather like the New light teaching of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, false prophets have to exaplin away previous revelations that contradict what the organisation is curently propogating. The long-term member must engage in what Orwell called double-think to maintain belief in an infallible prophetic office – whether Mormon or Watchtower

Deception by the Nazis at Babi Yar

August 6, 2009

(Sept. 1941) German posters throughout Kiev order the assembly of Jews for resettlement. The Jews are brought to the Babi Yar ravine, outside the city, and 34,000 are machine gunned to death by the SS. The SS reports that “the Jews still believed to the very last moment before being executed that indeed all that was happening was that they were being resettled.”

see Martin Gilbert, Holocaust, p.202 who adds

By the time they stood in front of a massive pit grave about to be shot it was too late.

Deception – the use of half-truths

August 6, 2009

When we use fishing bait we deceived fish by saying to them, in effect, ‘Here is food – take it! Indeed it really is food. That much is true. We have not lied to them as such; we have merely withheld the whole truth.

Deception – by the Nazis

August 6, 2009

One of the main reasons the Nazis managed to kill so many Jews was because they hid what they were really doing from the Jews and the outside world.

On arrival at Belzec death camp, the deportees were assured by a poster which read: ‘First a wash and breakfast – then to work.’ All were gassed to death.

Antichrist – Tyndale

May 28, 2009

(Tyndale) had just published the Obedience of a Christian Man, and the Parable of the Wicked Mammon, in which he represented Rome as one of the transformations of Antichrist. “Antichrist,” said he in the latter treatise, “is not a man that should suddenly appear with wonders; he is a spiritual thing, who was in the Old Testament and also in the time of Christ and the apostles, and is now and shall (I doubt not) endure till the world’s end. His nature is (when he is overcome with the Word of God) to go out of the play for a season, and to disguise himself, and then to come in again with a new name and new raiment. The Scribes and Pharisees in the gospel were very Antichrists; popes, cardinals, and bishops have gotten their new names, but the thing is all one. Even so now, when we have uttered [vanquished] him, he will change himself once more, and turn himself into an angel of light. Already the beast, seeing himself now to be sought for, roareth and seeketh new holes to hide himself in, and changeth himself into a thousand fashions with all manner of wiliness, falsehood, subtlety, and craft.”

How Satan tricks us into slavery

October 3, 2008

(the corn is ‘trifling’ sin).

In an essay entitled, “Whose Bread I Eat–His Song I Sing”, written by J.G. McDaniel, he describes a barbecue his father took him to when he was a child. The barbecue was held on a river bank in Georgia and was the occasion of an address given by Congressman Stephen Pace. Mr. Pace’s task that day was to explain why he opposed a federal spending bill that would subsidize farmers. Given the rural nature of his district, many farmers were in attendance. Congressman Pace told a story about wild hogs that had once lived along the river.

No one was sure where the hogs came from nor how they were able to survive the floods, fires, freezes and droughts which occurred in the area. Of course there was the occasion when one of the hogs would be killed by a pack of dogs or by a hunter, but that was not the norm.

One day a man stopped at the local store to find out where the hogs lived. After obtaining the desired information, the man went on his way. The store owner had forgotten about the man until he showed up a few months later in search of assistance to help bring the hogs to market as he had penned them all up. The news created a stir in the town and, of course, the townspeople had to see the hogs in the pen for themselves. Upon viewing the sight, they were all amazed and wondered how this man had been able to achieve this incredible feat.

The man said, “It was all very simple. First I put out some corn. For three weeks they would not eat it. Then some of the young ones grabbed an ear and ran off into the thicket. Soon they were all eating it; then I commenced building a pen around the corn, a little higher each day. When I noticed that they were all waiting for me to bring the corn and had stopped grubbing for acorns and roots, I built a trap door. Naturally, they raised quite a ruckus when they seen they was trapped, but I can pen any animal on the face of the earth if I can just get him to depend on me for a free handout.”
