Elton John has made a Jesus to his own liking

June 30, 2014

The church hierarchy, the traditionalists, might be up in arms about (gay marriage) but times have changed. If Jesus Christ was alive today, I cannot see him, as the Christian person that he was and the great person that he was, saying this could not happen. He was all about love and compassion and forgiveness and trying to bring people together and that is what the church should be about.

Elton John

Not that Jesus was even a Christian…but He certainly affirmed the teaching of the Jewish Scriptures and that did include Leviticus 18:22 etc. By reaffirming Genesis 2:24 in Matthew 19 Jesus makes heterosexual, exclusive, monogamous unions the God ordained norm. Elton John may not like that but saying what he does belies ignorance of the historical Jesus.

Men and Women are different

April 7, 2013

(sex therapist John) Money was…head of the Johns Hopkins Gender Identity Clinic. It was his belief in the unlimited malleability of human sexuality that led him, in his most famous case, to advise the parents of a baby whose penis was nearly cut off during a botched circumcision that he should henceforth be brought up as a girl. After all, what was a girl but a boy in skirts? And what was a boy but a girl given toy guns to play with? The requisite operations once performed on the unfortunate child, to complete what the botched circumcision had nearly accomplished, all would be well.

The boy brought up as a girl continued to show the boy-like qualities familiar to any mother. He or she fought like a trooper, was more interested in cars and trains than in dolls, was adventurous and boisterous, and, given a jump rope as a gift, used it only to tie up his or her twin brother. As he or she grew older, he or she expressed no sexual interest whatever in boys. Professor Money continued to describe the case as an unqualified success, and for a long time the scientific and journalistic worlds were fooled. Yes, it was possible to turn little boys into little girls by fiat. No, sexual identity was not fixed by biology but was socially constructed, a product of convention and custom. Money’s view was accepted uncritically as true and therefore it became orthodox (I remember being taught it as a medical student).

When at age 14 the subject of Money’s experiment was told of what had happened to him or her in early life, he or she immediately determined to revert to masculinity, for he or she, depressed and maladjusted all through childhood, had known all along in inchoate fashion that something was wrong: and, with yet more reconstructive surgery, he made a sound readjustment to masculinity and is now happily married to a woman. This was a part of the story that Money never told, for it contradicted the philosophy to which he had devoted his entire life’s work. It suggested that we cannot construct a sexual utopia of the kind that he, a once repressed farm boy from New Zealand, had dreamed about.

I don’t think Christ said a lot about abortion or even about single sex marriage

May 10, 2011

Some of the fundamentalist Christians seem to be performing or practising a kind of Christianity that I don’t think would be recognised by Christ. I don’t think Christ said a lot about abortion or even about single sex marriage. I don’t know where all these Christian doctrines came from but that had nothing to do with what Christ ever said in the Bible.

John Cleese, comedy actor, in a BBC Radio Merseyside interview. source

Well John, try the commandment, ‘Thou shalt not kill’  (that covers the murder of unborn human beings). I think you’ll find that Jesus was well in favour with the commandments as a cursory reading of the sermon on the mount would make plain. As for same-sex marriage, try Jesus’ words recorded in the gospel of Matthew (19.4-5)

4 He answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, 5 and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? 6 So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”

That ‘male’ and ‘female’ thing, John, is a bit of a clue on Jesus’ view on same-sex marriage, as well as the words ‘man’ and ‘wife’.

Have you not read, John? As you said yourself, “What Christ said in the Bible was profoundly important but it doesn’t mean that I approve of a lot of the people who practise Christianity.”

racism, prejudice, homophobia, antisemitism, and hate of any kind, are, at the risk of sounding absolutist, always intolerable

November 10, 2009

As compassionate citizens we need to be adamantly intolerant of regimes that openly and intentionally victimize segments of their populations. Institutional racism, prejudice, homophobia, antisemitism, and hate of any kind, are, at the risk of sounding absolutist, always intolerable.

Is hate always bad? Should we not hate error and that which enslaves and corrupts and is false? Should we not hate evil?

Suicide of Justin Fashanu

November 2, 2009

Well, if anyone finds this note hopefully I won’t be around to see it. But let’s begin at the beginning. What a start, everything going so well then I felt I was abandoned, left alone, without anybody to turn to. Being gay and a personality is so hard but everybody has it hard at the moment so I can’t complain about that. I want to say I didn’t sexually assault the young boy. He willingly had sex with me and then the next day asked for money. When I said no he said ‘you wait and see’. If that is the case, I hear you say, why did I run? Well justice isn’t always fair. I felt I wouldn’t get a fair trial because of my homosexuality. Silly thing really but you know what happens when you panic. I want to die rather than put my friends and family through any more unhappiness! I wish I was more of a good son, brother, uncle and friend. But I tried my best. This seems to be a really hard world. I hope the Jesus I love welcomes me home. I will at last find peace.

Justin Fashanu hanged himself in a London garage, May 1998, on the run accused of sexual assault.

If I profess with the loudest voice and clearest exposition every portion of the truth of God except precisely that little point which the world and the devil are at that moment attacking, I am not confessing Christ

September 30, 2009

If I profess with the loudest voice and clearest exposition every portion of the truth of God except precisely that little point which the world and the devil are at that moment attacking, I am not confessing Christ, however boldly I may be professing Christ. Where the battle rages, there the loyalty of the soldier is proved, and to be steady on all the battlefield besides is mere flight and disgrace if he flinches at that point.

Those who indulge in perversion tell those who are living normal lives that it is they who are deviating from what is natural

September 26, 2009

Those who indulge in perversion tell those who are living normal lives that it is they who are deviating from what is natural. They think they are following a natural life themselves. They are like people on a ship who think it is those on shore who are moving away. Language is relative everywhere. But we need a fixed point for those who are moving aboard ship. But in morality, where are we going to find a harbor?

UK Law on Homosexuality

August 26, 2009

A British Act passed in 1290 called for a convicted sodomite to be buried alive. Henry VIII changed the mode of execution in 1533, but it was not until 1861 that life imprisonment was substituted for the death penalty. Strange though it may seem in retrospect, a man convicted of buggery before 1967 could be sentenced to spend the rest of his life in jail. Since then, as a result of the Sexual Offences Act (for which the Wolfenden report, published ten years earlier, had paved the way), criminal charges can no longer be preferred against consenting males over the age of twenty-one¹ who preform homosexual acts in private. A curious feature of this law and, indeed, of previous British legislation, is that the practice of lesbianism is virtually ignored.
