Elton John has made a Jesus to his own liking

June 30, 2014

The church hierarchy, the traditionalists, might be up in arms about (gay marriage) but times have changed. If Jesus Christ was alive today, I cannot see him, as the Christian person that he was and the great person that he was, saying this could not happen. He was all about love and compassion and forgiveness and trying to bring people together and that is what the church should be about.

Elton John

Not that Jesus was even a Christian…but He certainly affirmed the teaching of the Jewish Scriptures and that did include Leviticus 18:22 etc. By reaffirming Genesis 2:24 in Matthew 19 Jesus makes heterosexual, exclusive, monogamous unions the God ordained norm. Elton John may not like that but saying what he does belies ignorance of the historical Jesus.

Creating a Jesus we are comfortable with

February 5, 2014
Jesus wanted us to be loving and forgiving.
Sir Elton John
He also demands we repent (Matthew 4:17). We want to make a kinder, gentler Jesus that makes no demands on us. And how could he? That Jesus doesn’t exist.

Don’t love gifts: love him who gave them

January 26, 2012

Suppose brethren, a man should make a ring for his betrothed, and she should love the ring more wholeheartedly than the betrothed who made it for her….Certainly, let her love his gift: but, if she should say, “The ring is enough. I do not want to see his face again” what would we say of her?…The pledge is given her by the betrothed just that, in his pledge, he himself may be loved. God, then, has given you all these things. Love him who made them.

Perhaps God isn’t perfect

December 18, 2010

People often say, “If there’s a God, why does he let bad things happen?” We expect God to be perfect, but if we’re made in God’s image, then perhaps God isn’t perfect. And that’s OK. But I also believe that partly we are God. We are part of God and God is something that’s in us and all around us.

all the (counter-revolutionary) targets were ordered to kneel and kowtow to a huge portrait of Mao at the back of the platform

November 17, 2009

…all the (counter-revolutionary) targets were ordered to kneel and kowtow to a huge portrait of Mao at the back of the platform. While the others did as they were told, my father refused. He said that kneeling and kowtowing were undignified feudal practices which the Communists were committed to eliminating. The Rebels screamed, kicked his knees, and struck him on the head, but he struggled to stand upright. “I will not kneel! I will not kowtow!! he said furiously . . . “I have committed no crime. I will not bend my head!” . . . Several large men jumped on him to try and force him down, but as soon as they let go he stood straight up, raised his head, and stared defiantly at the audience . . . the hysterical crowd screamed that he was “anti-Cultural Revolution . . . ”

Sex contains all, Bodies, Souls, meanings, proofs, purities, delicacies, results, promulgations, Songs, commands, health, pride, the maternal mystery, the seminal milk

October 14, 2009

Sex contains all,
Bodies, Souls, meanings, proofs, purities, delicacies, results, promulgations,
Songs, commands, health, pride, the maternal mystery, the seminal milk;
All hopes, benefactions, bestowals,
All the passions, loves, beauties, delights of the earth,
All the governments, judges, gods, follow’d persons of the earth,
These are contain’d in sex, as parts of itself, and justifications of itself.

The fallen duplicity of man is that he simultaneously seeks after God his Maker and flees from God his Judge

October 7, 2009

…religious activity…gives us the illusion of having met and satisfied (God). (Man’s) religiosity is a subtle escape from the God he is afraid and ashamed to meet. The fallen duplicity of man is that he simultaneously seeks after God his Maker and flees from God his Judge.
