Bible – Clarity

July 28, 2009

I do not wish to judge Mohammed by what is obscure in him, but by what is clear – bu his idea, for example, of paradise and such subjects. In these references he is ridiculous. And that is why it is not right to take his obscurities as mysteries, seeing that what is clear in him is absurd.

This does not apply to Scripture. I will admit there are obscurities as odd as those of Mohammed, but some things have wonderful clarity, accompanied by prophecies which have been obviously fulfilled. So the two cases cannot be compared. We must not confuse and treat as equal those things that resemble each other only in their obscurities, but not in that clarity which requires us to respect those obscurities.
