.In Islam, God is Caesar; in China and Japan, Caesar is God; in Orthodoxy, God is Caesar’s junior partner

May 10, 2013

Throughout Western history, first the Church and then many churches existed separate from the state. God and Caesar, church and state, spiritual authority and temporal authority had been a prevailing dualism in Western culture…In Islam, God is Caesar; in China and Japan, Caesar is God; in Orthodoxy, God is Caesar’s junior partner.

I have been commanded to fight against people till they testify that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah

April 24, 2010

Muhammad, the prophet of Islam, is reported to have said:

I have been commanded to fight against people till they testify that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, perform the Prayer, and pay Zakah. If they do that, their blood and property are guaranteed protection on my behalf except when justified by law, and their affairs rest with Allah.

(‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar  reported that Allah’s Messenger, Muhammad, said this)

Hadith Sahih Muslim 1: 33

The ahadith (authoritative for teaching in practice in Islam) teach that Muhammed (the perfect example for Muslims to follow) offered non-Muslims the options of submission to Islam, payment of the poll tax as a subservient people (available to Jews, Zoroastrians and Christians) or war. The latter meant death to the fighting men and the women and children taken as slaves.

Sahih Muslim (19:4294) – “When you meet your enemies who are polytheists [Christians…], invite them to three courses of action. If they respond to any one of these, you also accept it and withhold yourself from doing them any harm. Invite them to (accept) Islam; if they respond to you, accept it from them and desist from fighting against them … If they refuse to accept Islam, demand from them the Jizya. If they agree to pay, accept it from them and hold off your hands. If they refuse to pay the tax, seek Allah’s help and fight them”

To the Reformation Englishmen owe an English Bible, and liberty for every man to read it

September 26, 2009

To the Reformation Englishmen owe an English Bible, and liberty for every man to read it. To the Reformation they owe the knowledge of the way of peace with God, and of the right of every sinner to go straight to Christ by faith, without bishop, priest, or minister standing in his way. To the Reformation they owe a Scriptural standard of morality and holiness, such as our ancestors never dreamed of. For ever let us be thankful for these inestimable mercies ! For ever let us grasp them firmly, and refuse to let them go ! For my part, I hold that- he who would rob us of these privileges, and draw us back to pre-Reformation ignorance, superstition, and unholiness, is an enemy to England, and ought to be firmly opposed.

Conversion to Islam, payment of the poll tax, or death

September 15, 2009

Under the ‘Code/Ordinance/Pact’ of Umar Jews and Christians lived as dhimmis paying a poll-tax (jizya) to the Muslim state as an expression of their submission. (Many documents say they should experience some kind of humiliation while making the payment – e.g. by being struck on the neck). They were not allowed to build new churches or synagogues or repair those in areas occupied by Muslims. They were not allowed to display the cross outside churches or to hold public religious processions outside. Their clothes should be different from the clothes worn by Muslims. Often they had to wear a badge to mark them out from Muslims, and sometimes they were required to shave their heads. They were forbidden to ride on horses, and had to ride on mules or donkeys. They were required to show respect to Muslims-for instance, by giving up their seats to them.

It is (for them to choose between) conversion to Islam, payment of the poll tax, or death. Ibn Khaldun (1333-1406), Arab historian.

Islam – A Religion without a door marked ‘Exit’

August 23, 2009

…we are not talking about freedom of belief, or of religious practice, but the freedom of movement of belief; and there is a radical difference between these two. A faith which you are not free to leave becomes a prison, and no self-respecting faith should be a prison for those within it.

Bishop Kenneth Cragg, source, quoted byColin Chapman in, Cross and Crescent, p.270

Islam is a religion with a welcome sign on the door that says, ‘Enter’. However, there is no door marked ‘Exit’ and attempts to leave carry the death penalty.
